Sealants Can Protect Teeth from Decay
Our focus is very much on trying to prevent dental problems by using the best preventative dentistry treatments which include fissure sealants. These protect the chewing surfaces of your back teeth as these often have deep fissures that can easily trap food and bacteria, resulting in tooth decay.
Fissure sealants are quick to apply and are very non-invasive as you will not need local anaesthetic. They consist of a layer of thin, flowable plastic that completely seals the chewing surfaces, preventing infection and decay. Once the sealants are in place they are virtually invisible and they will not interfere with your bite. Fissure sealants will last for quite a few years before they need replacing, but we will keep an eye on their condition during your regular dental check-ups with Integrated Dental Care.
We can only use fissure sealants on teeth that do not have any cavities which is why we often suggest sealing children’s adult back teeth as soon as they come through.
