Getting porcelain veneers at Integrated Dental Care Pakenham typically involves two appointments.

Appointment 1 - Consultation, Preparation, and Impressions

Your treatment journey begins with a detailed consultation with our Pakenham cosmetic dentist to discuss your goals, assess your teeth, and determine whether veneers are the most appropriate option for you. We'll talk about which teeth would benefit from veneers, the shade and shape you'd like, and what kind of result you can realistically expect.

If you're happy to proceed, we prepare the teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel from the front surface - usually around 0.5mm. This creates space for the veneer to sit naturally without looking bulky or obvious. 

Detailed impressions or digital scans are taken and sent to the dental laboratory, along with your chosen shade and any specific instructions about shape and characterisation.

Temporary veneers may be placed to protect the prepared teeth and give you a preview of the shape while the final veneers are being made.

Appointment 2 - Bonding

When your porcelain veneers are ready - usually within two weeks - you'll return for the bonding appointment. We try each veneer in place, checking the fit, colour, and shape carefully. This is your opportunity to see the result before anything is permanently bonded and to request any final adjustments.
Once you're happy with how everything looks, the veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth using a strong dental adhesive. Any excess material is cleaned away, and the bite is checked and adjusted if needed.

The result is immediate - you'll leave the practice with your new smile.

Porcelain veneers require a thin layer of enamel to be removed, which is a permanent alteration to the tooth. However, the amount removed is minimal - typically around 0.5mm - and the veneer then protects the prepared surface. Composite veneers often require little to no enamel removal. We always take a conservative approach and remove only what is necessary to achieve a natural, well-fitting result.

The simplest way to think about it is that veneers improve appearance, while dental crowns restore both appearance and structural strength. If your tooth is healthy but doesn't look the way you'd like, a veneer is typically the more conservative option. If the tooth is significantly weakened, damaged, or has had extensive treatment, a crown may be necessary to protect it.
